Don’t Hesitate if You Need Air Conditioning Installation

air-conditioning-installationTemperatures are rising every day, and soon enough, every home in the Fort Wayne area is going to need their air conditioner to run on a daily basis. If you need a new air conditioner installed in your home, now is the time to do so. Hesitating could be a big mistake.

Why? Because installing a new air conditioner now means that you’ll avoid a number of issues later on in the summer, such as inefficient operation and flat-out breakdowns. Dealing with such issues in the middle of a heat wave isn’t something anyone wants to deal with. Installing the system now means you’ll be covered by the warranty all summer long – and many summers to come as well – and the improved efficiency of a new unit means that those monthly air conditioning bills won’t be nearly as high as they might otherwise.

But how can you tell if you need a new air conditioner installed? Is your old system really ready to be put out to pasture, or would it be a better idea to keep it running for another summer or two to get the most use out of it? Ultimately, only you can answer those questions, which depend on your unique circumstances and needs. The specifics usually come down to cost, however, and whether running the existing system makes more financial sense than investing in the new one.

What’s the State of the Warranty?

The warranty on your existing system usually covers the original parts for the air conditioner for a set number of years (typically 8-12). As long as the warranty is in effect, you usually don’t want to replace the air conditioner. Why? Because the cost will be mitigated, covering any original components that need to be replaced and leaving with only the cost of labor and perhaps a few ancillary components like bolts and screws to cover.

There are exceptions, of course. Sometimes a faulty system will require replacement before the warranty expires. In those cases, the technician can go over your options with you and help you make the most of your warranty’s options.’

What Are the Costs of Running the Old System?

Even if the warranty has expired, you shouldn’t replace the system until the costs of running it become more than you feel the system is worth. Again, the finally answer depends on you. However, there are two specific costs that may trigger the need to install a new system:

  • This usually means that the old system has broken down and the cost of fixing it is more than you feel the system is worth. Alternately, it could be simply the frequency of repairs. If you’ve had to fix your air conditioner more than twice in a 12-month period, it might be time to think about replacement
  • Monthly Costs. Older air conditioners are less efficient air conditioners. That can translate to higher monthly costs when compared with a new system. If you’ve decided that your budget can’t handle another summer of high AC bills, then it might be time for a new unit.
