3 Ways Dirty Filters Cause AC Problems

man-with-filterYou know that AC technicians need to handle AC maintenance.  It’s just not a DIY job. There is way too much to consider. Too much training and experience needed. But did you know that there is one maintenance task that you can and should handle yourself?

It’s an easy one. Just change your air filter as needed.

Well, that doesn’t sound all that important, you’re thinking. In truth, keeping a fresh air filter in your AC is the best thing that you yourself can do for your system. Why? Well, that’s what we’re here to talk about today. So read on, and reach out with any questions that you may have.

You’re Wasting Money

How am I saving money if I have to keep buying replacement filters? Isn’t that a waste?

You aren’t going to be replacing your air filters every week or anything. That would be wasteful. You should probably be replacing your air filters every 1-3 months. To start with, go ahead and check monthly. Adjust as needed.

These filters are quite cheap, and keeping a fresh one in place is going to really save you money in the long run.

The dirtier your filter is, the more energy it takes to force air through your AC system. And the harder that your system has to work to distribute conditioned air, the more energy it uses in doing so.  That means higher energy costs.

You’re Straining Your System

The harder that your air conditioner works to do its one and only job, the more wear and tear you put on it. And the more wear and tear you put on it, the more likely you are to wind up with repair needs on your hands. Not only does a fresh filter keep problems at bay, but it saves you the cost of fixing those problems!

Now, you know that you’ll run into AC problems eventually. You are definitely going to need air conditioning repairs in Fort Wayne, IN, at some point. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t do everything you can to prevent them, though.

Routine maintenance is definitely the champion of keeping repairs few and far between. You only have your system tuned up annually, though. That means you need to be changing your filter yourself. Once a year is not enough!

You’re Limiting Your Comfort!

What’s worse than driving down cooling efficiency? Driving down your comfort, too! That will leave you to pay more for less comfort. And you deserve better than that.

A dirty filter can cause your system to overheat. That can cause it to run in short bursts. And that can cause it to underwhelm you in terms of its cooling output. When you keep a fresh filter in your air conditioner, you are setting it up for success.

Remember, routine air conditioning maintenance is your best bet for the best AC performance. However, you have to do your part. So get that dirty old filter out of there!
